BPP PRESENTS: KFC24 Creator Cards
Last week, you read about Ghost Galaxy’s plans for KeyForge Celebration 2024. This week, we’re excited to share some special news on a project that we here at Bad Penny Press — along with some friends of ours — have been working on over the past few months.
We love to feature content creators in Bad Penny Press. Not only do we publish stories featuring them, but we also include KeyForge content in every issue for our Content Feature. We wanted to take that concept and bring it into the game itself, and since KFC is a celebration of all things KeyForge and its community, we felt this would be the perfect time to do this. KeyForge is incredibly fortunate to have fantastic content creators, that’s something we want to celebrate!
INTRODUCING: CREATOR CARDS
Bad Penny Press has teamed up with 10 KeyForge content creators who plan to attend KFC this year, to help design unique cards for their content brand which we call Creator Cards. These behave like "match modifier” cards. They are not in play, but are visible on the table and modify the game state globally with thematic game-altering effects. We say “thematic”, because each card’s effects have been designed by the creators themselves based on the spirit of their content in the KeyForge universe. Above all, letting that creativity and fun factor shine are the primary goals of these game effects.
Each card also features art that was either designed by the creators themselves, or driven by their ideas.
Before you begin a game, decide with your opponent(s) which creator card (or cards — go nuts! We’re not gonna stop you!) you want to use. If you noticed the ‘(s)’ above… Yup, all of the cards are also designed to be fully compatible with multiplayer modes such as Vault Assault, Keymander, and KeyForge Adventures.
It likely goes without saying that creator cards are not official KeyForge products, nor are tournament legal, but we’re hoping these can provide fun and interesting games for casual matches at KFC and beyond.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
In addition to providing fun casual experiences, we wanted to give attendees a chance to potentially collect, share, and trade something among friends. We also wanted to give content creators a chance to do something special with this during their time at KFC.
To that end, we are printing serialized copies of each creator’s card, and giving them to those creators to distribute at KFC24, at no cost to them. Most of the serialized cards will be distributed exclusively at KFC24, with a very limited number of serialized cards potentially being distributed as part of contests included in KFC coverage content these creators release (will vary by creator). With the 10 participating creators plus a card of our own, there will be 11 unique creator card designs.
How does one go about obtaining creator cards at KFC? We wanted to allow each creator to take the lead on this. They’ll be distributing cards in the ways they prefer that work best for them. Starting today, we’ve invited our participating content creators to share their involvement, as well as how they think they’ll be distributing cards at KFC, so keep eyes and ears on your favorite KeyForge channels for more info! If you’re not able to attend this year though, fear not…
FOMO NO MO’
There are plenty of things that can prohibit travel, and we didn’t want people to feel left out completely if they couldn’t attend KFC this year. So in addition to giving participating creators serialized cards for KFC, we’ll also be giving them the means to distribute non-serialized copies of their cards to their communities post-KFC, either as digital images, as print and play copies, or with more cardstock prints. Again, the choice is up to them!
Furthermore, we know some content creators couldn’t attend KFC this year either, nor may we have been able to include all creators in one pass. Our hope is to partner with these creators after KFC, to help them develop their own cards as well for distribution. While we haven’t begun this process yet, we hope to begin this over the holiday season with a new batch of post-KFC cards sometime in 2025.
BRINGING IT HOME
So why do all this? As we mentioned, the heart of this project is recognizing and supporting KeyForge’s amazing content creators. They put in an incredible amount of time, energy, and money into making videos, podcasts, websites, and more, that we all enjoy.
We hope that by creating these cards, this gives these creators another way to engage with the community (both at KFC and at home), a chance to give out something that we think is pretty cool (admittedly, we’re biased), but we also hope that attendees bring these cards back with them to their LGSes and kitchen tables, to both enjoy for casual games, but also to bring awareness to these content creators.
The backside of each creator card will feature a QR code which navigates to the creator’s main page. We hope this allows some of the Crucible’s hardest working individuals a chance to be discovered by new audiences.
This has been a passion project of ours, and we hope you are just as excited for this little shard of Æmber we’re bringing to what is looking to be an incredible KeyForge Celebration this year. We’re now going to pass the baton to our participating creators for their announcements, so be on the lookout!

It Was Fate:
Ghost Galaxy teased some of the future with a little glimpse into Prophetic Visions, KeyForge’s upcoming ninth standard set estimated for release in Spring 2025. The post shares some insight into some mechanics — something Ghost Galaxy says is still a work in progress — with the new Prophecy card type being introduced in the set and how they interact with the newly introduced Fate: abilities that some cards may have.
The post also reveals the sets house lineup (with a hint of some things which may come to pass… if you stare long enough!)
Ask a Judge
Q: In my hand, I have Mimcry that has been enhanced with a Capture bonus icon. If I play it as a copy of Be Our Geist enhanced with a Damage and a Discard bonus icon in my opponent’s discard, which bonus icons resolve?
A: When you choose to play Mimicry, any bonus icons that are on Mimicry will not resolve, any bonus icons on the card Mimicry is copying will resolve.
In this example, you play Mimicry as a copy of your opponent's Be Our Geist that has a Damage bonus icon and a Discard bonus icon (in addition to its default Æmber bonus icon).
You resolve the bonus icons on Be Our Geist in order; resolve the Æmber bonus icon and gain an Æmber, then resolve the Damage bonus icon and deal 1 damage to a creature, then resolve the Discard bonus icon and discard a card from your hand. Finally, resolve the Play: ability of Be Our Geist. The Capture bonus icon on Mimicry will not get resolved.
