2023 Organized Play Update
This week, Ghost Galaxy updated their plans for 2023 Organized Play. The 2023 KeyForge World Championships will be held November 11th-13th at the Gamezenter in Roseville, MN with a $50,000 prize pool split between two tournaments, Alliance and Archon. Invites to the 2020 World Championships that were to be hosted by former publisher Fantasy Flight Games will not be honored.
The US National Championships will take place August 3rd-6th at GenCon in Indianapolis, IN. The winner of a National Tournament will qualify for Worlds.
The 2023 Vault Tour schedule is still being planned out, but Ghost Galaxy aims to hold 5 Vault Tours in the United States and 5 internationally. The top two finishers from each Vault Tour will qualify for the World Championship.
Lastly, after reviewing the plans for Regionals with a group of potential organizers, it was determined that it would be difficult to make the events successful for organizers, so GG has opted to remove Regionals from the Organized Play program, looking to focus those resources into Store Championships for 2024.
Ask a Judge
On my turn, I play Dive Deep, hoping to set up for a key with Dark Discovery, and target my opponent’s Skirmisher, a token creature. When I later play Dark Discovery, can I name Skirmisher to successfully resolve the effect? If not, does my opponent show the reverse side of the token before putting it on the bottom of their deck?
While you can name Skirmisher as a part of resolving Dark Discovery’s ability, Skirmisher will not be the named card that is discarded from the bottom of the deck. Token creatures revert to their card front when they leave play; if the card leaves play and is placed in an out of play area in which card identities are hidden (hand, archive, or in this case bottom of the deck), then the opponent does not show the card front when the card leaves play.
